SPEAKER NAMES REP. PEGGY MAST TO SPECIAL JUDICIARY COMMITTEE
Topeka – Kansas Speaker of the House of Representatives Melvin Neufeld (R-Ingalls) said he is pleased Rep. Peggy Mast has accepted an appointment to the 2008 Special Committee on Judiciary.

“Rep. Mast’s legislative experience is well-suited for the topics to be reviewed and studied by the special committee. Her understanding and knowledge of the issues will help the committee draw up sound public policy recommendations for the 2009 Legislature’s consideration,” Speaker Neufeld said.

The nine-member special committee will meet for two days before the next session to review and study:

  • Kansas Open Records Act
  • Benefits for Law Enforcement Officers Killed or Injured in the
  • Line of Duty
  • Victim of Identity Theft
  • Review of Foster Care System

“I served on the Judiciary Committee for six years and it will be a real pleasure to be serving on this interim. I feel that the topics are important issues to be tackled before our next legislative session,” Rep. Mast said.

The special committee must submit a report of its recommendations on these issues to the 2009 Legislature.
